Ann McIntyre - Artist Statement/Works on Paper
I start with an attraction to a material and a curiosity to see how it will transform when submitted to the pressure of the printing press. Specifically, I’m attracted to things that have been used up for their original purpose and discarded. I challenge myself: Can I pull a second life out of something that has been thrown away?
For several years I experimented with leftover packaging materials, bubble wrap, netting, and construction site fencing to build a matrix of multicolored layers and textures. Currently, I am adding natural elements into the layering and find the mix of organic shapes, grids and geometric form compelling. Unlike our instantaneous society, the process is time consuming, evolving slowly through decision-making and trial + error. The possibilities seem endless.
I hope my work inspires others to see infinite possibilities in their surroundings and to be invigorated by the transformative power of the imagination.
